After watching the Interviewing Tips video, it taught me more about interviewing and the steps I have to go through. The first thing I learned is that you need to make sure you plan out everything ahead of time. You have to brainstorm ideas of what the interview is going to be about, and you have to think of the questions you are going to ask. Another lesson I learned is that the equipment is important. You need to have a good, stable set up, and working microphones if you are using one. That goes into another lesson, the audio. Before you start with the interview you need to make sure the audio is clear and working. If you are using a microphone, it is good to test it out before hand, just to be sure it works. If you aren't using a microphone, you need to have the camera about two to three feet away from the person you are interviewing, and a quiet location. I also learned that it is good to practice before the actual interview. You need to make sure you practice how to set up the camera, and have good composition. It is also good to practice the actual speaking of the interview, and make sure the person is talking clearly. Finally, conducting the interview. You need to have the camera set up, the audio clear, and the questions you are asking. It is good to go deep into the questions and ask them to tell you more about the subject they are talking about. It is also very important to get B-roll so the audience can see visuals of what the person is talking about. It is showing and telling the audience about the subject. These tips are really useful for interviews and can make the video turn out amazing.

My six word story was "Life is stressful, it gets better." I chose this because I can get really stressed out juggling schoolwork, sports, and other things, but I always end up realizing that it gets better. My first shot was an over the shoulder shot, and I chose this because I wanted it to show the "teacher" giving me the test that I failed. My second shot was a wide shot, and I wanted it to show me and my surroundings. My third shot was a medium shot, and I wanted it to focus on the girl bumping into me and my stuff falling. My fourth shot was a POV shot, and the goal of this shot was to show my improving test grade as I would see it. My fifth shot was a hands shot, and I chose this because I wanted it to show all the hands helping me pick up my fallen materials. My final shot was a close up, and I chose this because I wanted it to show me enjoying the book, instead of struggling with it. During this project, I really enjoyed being able to do an type of story we wanted to, and have fun with it.
Six Word Stories are meant to tell a whole story in only a few words. Ernest Hemingway is known for his Six Word Story. He wrote "For Sale: baby shoes, never worn." This story is about a couple who is expecting a baby, but implies that the baby never made it. The story came about from Hemingway in a restaurant with his friends. They made a bet to see if he could write a story in only a few words, and that is how he came up with his infamous story. The story may be only a few words but it has a lot of meanings. Click Here to see more information about his story. Here are some other Six Word Stories:
"Tripped over luck, stumbled upon tragedy." "You were my lifeboat. I drowned." "Dreaming of wonderlands, waking to wastelands." I have learned a lot about cinematography and editing. In cinematography, I have learned about the different types of shots, and how to perfect those shots. In editing I have learned how to put the different shots together, and how to play with the sound. We also learned how to add transitions and generators. I liked being able to go around the school filming, and I liked playing with the different transitions in Final Cut Pro.
- It is really important to make sure that the camera is set up well, like a steady shot, good audio, and working equipment.
- The different types of shots (wide, medium, tight) focuses on different things in the shot, and it is the building block of chapter three. - Sequences are about each shots flowing into the next shots. It is about putting your wide, medium, and tight shots together and making them flow. You also want to make sure that the shots you are getting causes a break. - There are rules to when you are shooting a video. The rule of thirds is a good starting point and it adds visual appeal. Eyes on third is making sure the person's eyes are on the top line. Talking space is the empty space in front of the person in the shot. - The top 10 tips are to wear headphones, use a tripod, focus manually, avoid back lighting, white balance, shoot pre and post roll, no in-camera effects, don't record shot adjusts, and finally don't cross the axis. During the Tv Studio unit, I got to work a lot a fun jobs, and learn how they work. My favorite job by far was the Floor Director. I got to communicate with the director and listening to what they tell me. I also get to be in charge of the tv studio (kind of). Another job I enjoyed was AJA. I learned that following along with the script is really important. I also learned how it works and what buttons to press to work it. Director was another job where it is very important to follow along with the script. When you are director, everything is in your hands. It is your job to cue the other jobs. Tech Director was another fun job. When you first see all the buttons, it makes it seem like a tough job, but it was actually pretty simple. When you are tech director, you control was shows up on the screen. It is also important to follow along with the script. Finally, Talent. I am going to be honest here, I was very nervous about being talent. It ended up not being that bad, but it also isn't the job of my choice. It is important to sit up straight and talk at a decent level when you are talent. I also learned that if something went wrong with the teleprompter, do not stop, continue reading from the script in front of you. There was multiple more jobs, and they were all pretty fun. All in all, it was a good learning experience.
The iAm Alaina video was a great first start to the school year. I liked that it gave us a chance to introduce ourselves in video form. One thing I learned in this project was getting the pictures from my phone onto the computer without a cord. One challenge that I faced was finding enough pictures and videos for the project. I overcame that challenge by going through all my social media to find more things to put in the video. Something I would do differently in this project would be to start it from when I was a baby to now. To see all of my work, visit my video page.
